Approaches to Early Childhood Education (5N1763)
This course is suitable for those studying the QQI Level 5 Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education.
It will equip you with the knowledge, skill and competence in the philosophy and practice underpinning a specific approach to Early Childhood Education, to include one of the following Montessori, Froebel, Steiner or Weikart.
Course content:
* Programmes and core concepts developed by Maria Montessori, Fredrich Froebel, Rudolf Steiner and David P Weikart
* Role of the adult in a specific Early Childhood Education approach
* The philosopher's views on the importance of activity in the education process
* The value of the specific learning environment to the development and wellbeing of the child
* Evaluate learning in both individual and group contexts
* Education routines with children in the ECCE setting
* Maintaining a quality ECCE environment that complies with the a specific educational philosophy
* Reflecting on personal strengths and weaknesses when working with children and team members.
Assessment: Assignment 40%, Portfolio/Collection of Work 60%
